Live acts pop up across Moreton Bay

Live performance acts are popping up in unexpected places all across Moreton Bay.

Anywhere Festival Moreton Bay has returned this month for a celebration of creativity and community.

The annual festival sees local venues across Moreton Bay open their doors to host theatre acts, showcasing anything from Shakespeare to family bubble shows.

The festival celebrates the cultural richness across Moreton Bay and experiments with live performance in places other than a traditional theatre.

The cast of Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble said that preparing a show for a pop-up venue brings a unique excitement that keeps the performers really on their toes.

“There’s a lot of chaos and fun that goes on in the show and behind the scenes,” QSE performer Meg Bennett said.

“Luckily, our short shows are quite adaptable for any kind of stage.”

A recent festival highlight was Shakespeare at Hip Hops Brewers - two things you wouldn't expect would go together, but work a treat. 

That’s exactly the joy of the festival - turning loved local places into stages.

The actors encouraged audiences to cheer, boo, and enjoy the show, just how Shakespeare intended. 

Beneath the loft staging, the other weekend customers enjoyed their Sunday afternoon at the brewery. It was the perfect setting for the play to unfold.

Audiences are treated to a high-energy, tongue-in-cheek rendition of a classic.

The whole cast committed to physical comedy and gags perfect for people of all ages. The kids were almost rolling on the floor laughing, and many of the adults had a chuckle with a local beer in hand.

There was even audience participation, with eager crowd members stepping into the action as thespians. The ensemble’s quick improvisation and reactions made every interaction with the audience feel spontaneous and hilarious.

Leah Mustard was a standout performer, their facial expressions were outlandish and delightful.

The show successfully condenses Shakespeare into a bite-sized, entertaining afternoon out.

Actor Scott Mair puts it best:

“Even if you know nothing about Shakespeare, you are guaranteed to have a good time.”
