Whip out the picnic blanket, dust off your dancing shoes and bring your best voice for the scheduled return of Music Under the Stars at the Samford Showgrounds on February 12.

Preparations for events in 2022 are ramping up in the Moreton Bay Region, starting with one of Samford’s favourite events after the expected peak of the Omicron COVID-19 strain.

Mayor Peter Flannery says after wet weather put paid to last year’s event, this year’s Samford Under the Stars was planned for the Samford Showgrounds with a bumper line-up of music to get the whole family grooving.

There will be food, artisan markets and activities for the young and young-at-heart.

“After a tough year for many families and businesses, we want to try and start 2022 in Samford by bringing everyone together for a celebration of our community through music and food, ” Mayor Flannery says.

The gold-coin donation event will be headlined by Rumours the Australian Fleetwood Mac Experience, who will perform hits including Dreams and Landslide, with performances from emerging indie-reggae rock band Lucid Safari, the Angel Strings Quartet and Eatons Hill acoustic artist Amy Kate.

Running from 4-8pm, Mayor Flannery says there will be plenty on offer to eat, with food trucks lining the showgrounds.

“Whether it’s a chorus of your favourite hits, good food to satisfy the cravings, or backyard games and an inflatable obstacle course for the littles ones, there’s something for everyone at Music Under the Stars.

“It’s an event that I know my fellow councillor Darren Grimwade has been looking forward to, because your cheer and support will mean a lot to the businesses and artists taking part after a tough year with COVID.”

Night markets

Cr Grimwade is keen to welcome families back to the showgrounds, with event also marking the return of the popular night markets with handmade, local and sustainable designs and wares.

“What better way to start off 2022 than on a high note and through an evening for the whole family,” Cr Grimwade says.

“Mark your calendar for a night under the stars, and be sure to say g’day to the show society who will also be running a bar for the four-hour event.

“Events like this, together with investments like the $1.7 million package for the Samford Parklands and Alan Cash Park, are our community’s way to not just celebrate what we love about Samford but also support the local economy.”
