New deadline for harbour plans
Published 5:00pm 15 February 2024
Public consultation for the Scarborough Boat Harbour Draft Master Plan has been extended by a month.
Feedback was to have closed this week, but the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will keep it open until 11.59pm on March 11.
Pop-up information sessions will be at Thurecht Park, Scarborough on February 24, 8-10am; Redcliffe Library Foyer on February 28, 4-6pm and Jamieson Park, Scarborough on March 3 7-9am.
TMR said Scarborough Harbour is “an integral part of Redcliffe Peninsula and Moreton Bay’s social, cultural and economic landscape”.
The extension is to “give everyone more time to have a say on the future of Scarborough Boat Harbour.”
TMR’s new “long-term vision” for the harbour includes more tourism, commercial and entertainment activities and low-impact marina activities.
This would include berthing for recreational and commercial vessels, “promote commercially and environmentally sustainable activities, support the maritime industry, and generate local employment and tourism”.
Trawlers, seafood processing and wholesale would move across the harbour to allow for “expanded marine activities” and a “club and community facility” on the inside harbour section of Scarborough Park.
However, there has been local opposition with the Scarborough Harbour Action Group (SHAG) registering fears, concerns and new ideas for the area.
