Moreton Bay pharmacies join COVID vaccine rollout

Posted: 2pm 17 Aug 2021

Pharmacies across the Moreton Bay Region are rolling up their sleeves and joining the COVID vaccine rollout to support the national program.

At the time of publication almost 50 outlets were listed on the COVID vaccination list, which is growing by the day.

“I’m very encouraged by the growing number of community pharmacies now delivering the COVID vaccine,” State Health Minister and Member for Redcliffe Yvette D’Ath said.

Hearth Minister and Member for Redcliffe Yvette D'Ath, left, with staff at Woody Point Pharmacy.

'Come forward'

“Already, we have 680 Queensland community pharmacies helping to protect Queenslanders against COVID, including nine on the Redcliffe Peninsula.

“We continue to rely on the Commonwealth for our vaccine supply and as more vaccines become available we hope to see more pharmacies come online.

“If you’re eligible, come forward for vaccination. People aged 16-59 can also register to get vaccinated on the Queensland Health website.

“Whether it’s through your GP, a community pharmacy or a vaccination hub, come forward to get vaccinated to protect yourself and your family.”

Woody Point Pharmacy manager Kylie Flavel

'Ready to go'

Kylie Flavel, manager at Woody Point Pharmacy on Oxley Ave, said she was “surprised by the uptake”.

In less than a week, the pharmacy had administered 225 vaccines – a mixture of first and second shots – and still had hundreds more available.

“I was a little hesitant at first when they said order all the vaccines you can,” said Mrs Flavell, “but I think for many people it is a matter of convenience.

“That age range, 18-59, has been waiting and is really ready to go and get vaccinated. They’re ready to do the right thing.

“I think demand will go up as more and more pharmacies get vaccines. At the moment we have done about five per cent of the Woody Point population - 95 per cent to go!

The pharmacy staff, all fully vaccinated, are doing walk-in and appointment vaccinations, taking members of the public through the entire pre and post-jab process.
