School carpark work signals start of road upgrade

Morayfield State School’s carpark will be transformed as part of Moreton Bay City Council’s Caboolture River Road upgrade.
This work, which will happen from late 2025 through to early 2026, will be jointly funded by the State Government and Council under the South East Queensland City Deal Growth Area Compact.
The 60-space carpark will have a new student drop-off and pick-up zone, internal zebra crossing and path to provide safer access to parked vehicles.
Mayor Peter Flannery says the carpark improvements will mark the start of construction along the 1.2km section of Caboolture River Rd from Morayfield Rd to Grant Rd.
The broader upgrade will include:
• Widening Caboolture River Rd between Grant Rd and Morayfield Rd to provide two traffic lanes in each direction (four lanes in total) with a central median strip
• Installing additional traffic turning lanes at key intersections
• Installing new traffic lights at the intersection of Amy and Kenneth streets
• Upgrading the existing traffic lights at Grant Rd and Morayfield Rd
• Changing access at Ben St and Lorebury Drive to left in/left out only
• Installing new cycling and pedestrian paths on both sides of the road.
The State Government is providing $71 million in funding, with Council contributing $10 million.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jarrod Bleijie says the Government is proud to back this vital upgrade.
“With the significant growth in and around this part of the City of Moreton Bay, it’s essential local communities have the infrastructure they need to keep pace,” he says.
“This is exactly the kind of practical investment that supports a growing Queensland – improving the road’s safety and capacity, while delivering better access and amenity for the Morayfield State School community.
“This project shows what’s possible when all levels of government work together to deliver for Queenslanders.”
Mayor Flannery says this crucial part of the City’s road network will be upgraded from two to four lanes during the next few years, and when complete would make a huge difference for the thousands of people who rely on it daily.
“This includes families that make up the vibrant Morayfield State School community,” Mayor Flannery says.
“Improving access and safety around the school has been a priority throughout the project’s design phase and I’m pleased these much-needed enhancements are among the first to be constructed.
“Council and the Department of Education have been working closely to create what will be a truly modern school transit facility, guided by feedback from the school.”
Councillor Adam Hain (Div 3) says it makes sense for a new school carpark to be included in the Caboolture River Rd upgrade.
“This upgrade means a wider road footprint. To accommodate this, some land adjacent to the existing Caboolture River Road is required to be repurposed for project works, including along the school’s frontage,” Cr Hain explains.
“These necessary changes, along with the new signalised intersection to be established at Kenneth St, presented the perfect opportunity for the carpark to be included within our project.
“Complete with its accessible parking bays and tactile indicators for the vision impaired, it will better meet the requirements of all students and their families.”
It is expected work will commence in December 2025, with the contractor to use as much of the summer school break as possible to minimise impacts to the school community and road users.
Construction of the school carpark is expected to be completed by early 2026 weather permitting, ahead of service relocation works which are scheduled for early to mid-next year.
At this stage, road construction is due to start late 2026 and is expected to be completed in 2028.
