History of Burpengary
The name Burpengary, is derived from the Aboriginal word burpengar, meaning the place of the green wattle. Europeans settled in Burpengary in the 1870s, the first industry established was timber cutting.
The railway line through Burpengary to Caboolture was opened in 1888. Burpengary remained a rural village until the mid-twentieth century, when in the 1970’s Burpengary developed into an urban area with its position on the railway line desirable to city commuters.
